SHAH ALAM: Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) today held its first annual general meeting, following a warning issued by the Registrar of Societies (RoS).
The meeting, held at the Ideal Convention Centre here, was attended by 941 delegates from 137 divisions, as was announced by the party secretary-general, Datuk Shahruddin Md Salleh.
Also present were PPBM chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, its president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and Pakatan Harapan president Datin Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.
Prior to this, PPBM was issued a warning by the RoS for committing three offences, which included not holding its annual general meeting and forming the party's youth wing, known as Armada.
Meanwhile, Dr Mahathir, in his policy speech, said that there was not a party in Pakatan Harapan (PH) which could defeat Barisan Nasional (BN) in the coming general election on its own.
He said it was because of that PPBM joined other parties with common objectives and called on all members to put aside personal interests to ensure unity in the pact.
Muhyiddin, in his speech, expressed PPBM's support for Dr Mahathir to play a main role in Pakatan Harapan's future government.
He said based on Dr Mahathir's 22 year-experience in helming the country, the former prime minister would bring the country to greater heights.
At the meeting, the delegates unanimously voted for Tasek Gelugor PPBM divisional hear Datuk Shariff Omar as permanent chairman and Kulim-Bandar Baharu division leader Datuk Azimi Daim as the deputy. — Bernama
