Private nurseries and childminders must abide by guidelines

KUALA NERUS: Abuse cases should not be happening in private nurseries or with private childminders if they abide by the guidelines that have been set by the government.
Deputy Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Abd Muttalib said it would not be worthwhile for them to abuse the children who will suffer negative effects but it would also affect the future of the nurseries and childminders.
"Such cases are investigated under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001, with a sentence of a fine up to RM20,000 or jail up to 10 years or both, if found guilty. It is not worth it," Ismail said, adding that those who work in this area must be strong emotionally, physically and spiritually.
"In addition, the childminders must also have a high level of tolerance, handle the children like their own and also improve their knowledge and skills in this area, such as in psychology, so as to prevent such (abuse) cases from occurring," he said.
Ismail was speaking to reporters when asked to comment on the case of a four-year-old child who was slapped by the nursery teacher in Kajang, Selangor recently.
Earlier, he presented certificates of completion to 100 course participants of the Permata Early Childhood Education and Permata Childcare At-Home Entrepreneurship Course here today. — Bernama
