Puspakom agent fined RM10,000 for accepting RM200 bribe

LABUAN: A Puspakom Sdn Bhd agent was today sentenced to a day's jail and fined RM10, 000, in default three months jail, for accepting a bribe of RM200 from a vehicle owner.
Sessions Court Judge Abu Bakar Manaf handed out the sentenced on Abdul Azri Mohd Karim, 35, who pleaded guilty to the charge.
In meting out the sentence, Abu Bakar said it was to serve as a lesson to Azri and also a reminder not to repeat the offence.
Azri wax charged with accepting the money from Junaidi Narajik as an inducement to approve two four-wheel drive vehicles that failed the 'parking brake' test at the Puspakom compound in Batu Arang, Jalan Mustapha at 4.10pm on Nov 1 last year.
The charge, under under Section 17 (a) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009, provides an imprisonment for up to 20 years and a fine of not less than five times the amount of bribe received or RM10,000, whichever is higher.
On another case, brothers Tan Kok Chat, 37, and Tan Kok Huat, 45, pleaded not guilty to a charge of offering bribe of RM3, 000 to National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK) senior assistant Alimulia En.
Judge Abu Bakar fixed July 13 for mention of the case. — Bernama
