Rafizi sentenced to 30 months in jail for Bafia offence (Updated)

SHAH ALAM: Pandan MP Mohd Rafizi Ramli has been sentenced to 30 months jail by the sessions court here for exposing bank accounts related to the National Feedlot Corporation (NFC) and its chairperson Datuk Seri Dr Mohamad Salleh Ismail.
Judge Zamri Bakar handed down the sentence to Rafizi after finding him guilty of the offence.
Zamri said the prosecution has proven the case beyond reasonable doubt.
Judge Zamri Bakar also jailed former Public Bank clerk Johari Mohamad 30 months for abetting Rafizi in the crime.
However, the court granted a stay of execution pending the disposal of their appeal.
A total of 19 prosecution witnesses were called to testify in the trial while both the accused testified in their defence.
In 2012, Mohd Rafizi, 41, was charged with exposing Public Bank customer-profile documents comprising balance summaries relating to the NFC, National Meat and Livestock Sdn Bhd, Agroscience Industries Sdn Bhd and NFC chairperson Mohamad Salleh.
The offence was committed at PKR's headquarters at Merchant Square, Jalan Tropicana Selatan, Petaling Jaya, on Mar 7, 2012.
Rafizi was charged under Section 97(1) of Bafia, punishable under Section 103(1)(a) of the same Act, which carries a maximum jail term of three years or a maximum fine of RM3 million or both, upon conviction.
Johari, 47, was charged with abetting Mohd Rafizi at the same place on the same day.
