KUALA LUMPUR: A routine stray dog catching exercise led to a one-hour stand-off between residents of Taman Seputeh and Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) authorities following a complaint from some people.
In the 9pm incident, a dog with a collar and a tag was released after some 20 residents gathered and demanded the authorities to show a notice.
Checks by theSun also revealed one of the "so-called" DBKL personnel who persisted on catching the dog was in plain clothes.
He later went missing during the confrontation.
After being questioned why he was not in uniform and did not produce proper papers, the man confessed that he was just a contract staff.
One of the resident who wanted to be known as Alex eventually volunteered to adopt the dog and said he was saddened at the manner of the operation conducted.
"The dog was dragged mercilessly. We demanded to see their authorisation letter which they failed to show until the end," Alex told theSun when met.
Meanwhile, the DBKL personnel who was heading the operation said there was a complaint by a resident that there were many stray dogs in the residential area.
However, when questioned by theSun, he only managed to produce the complaint letter.
The dog was later released after a resident volunteered to adopt it.
