RM7.8m money laundering: Three company directors charged

    JOHOR BARU: Three company directors were charged in the Sessions Court here today, with money laundering amounting to RM7.8 million since 2011.
    They were Abdul Razak Suib, 58, Chang Wan Ning, 27, and Wong Chin Sheng, 42, who are directors of Eastern Global Capital Sdn Bhd, Vantage Instinct Sdn Bhd and South Eminent Resources Sdn Bhd, respectively.
    Based on the charge sheet, Abdul Razak faces 40 charges involving RM4.5 million; Chang (six charges involving RM622,798) and Wong (four charges with a value of RM2.67 million).
    They pleaded not guilty when the charge was read out before Judge Mohammad Khalid Ab Karim.
    The offences were committed between Nov 9, 2011 and Sept 10, 2015 in Johor Bahru by allegedly using the company's account to receive money from illegal activities.
    The court set bail between RM30,000 and RM50,000 in one surety for all the accused and ordered them to surrender their passports and report once a month at the nearest police station.
    The court fixed Sept 14 for mention and submission of documents.
    Meanwhile in a separate court, the three accused also faced a charge each for conducting a money services business without licence since 2011.
    They pleaded not guilty when the charge was read out before Judge Kamarudin Kamsun.
    All the offences are alleged to have been committed between Nov 9, 2011 and Dec 10, 2015 by transferring funds on behalf of the original sender to the recipient within or outside the country.
    The court also set bail at between RM30,000 and RM50,000 in one surety for all the accused, and ordered them to surrender their passports and report once a month to the nearest police station.
    The court also set Sept 14 for re-mention and submission of documents.
    The prosecution was conducted by Bank Negara Malaysia officer Steve Chin Yun Cheong and deputy public prosecutors Nor Ashikin Mokhtar and Kesinee Aigalu Parthasarathee.
    Chang and Wong were represented by counsels Lau Kok Guan and Mohd Fahmi A Jalil, respectively, while Abdul Razak was unrepresented. — Bernama
