KLANG: A 61-year-old man who went by the nickname "Rock Kapak" was arrested by police in Port Klang on Tuesday for allegedly molesting his friend's 10-year-old daughter.
It was a bitter lesson for the girl's father for leaving his daughter alone with the suspect whom he had befriended just a week ago and is an ex-convict with past criminal records for rape and robbery.
Police said on Sunday, the girl's 38-year-old father who is a mechanic had taken her and her younger sister, aged nine, to a playground in Pandamaran in the evening.
When his children were done playing, the mechanic received a call from the suspect who invited him for a drink at about 5.30pm.
He agreed and took his children along.
After they finished having their drinks, the suspect who is a lorry driver told his friend to leave his older daughter behind as he would send her home later.
The unsuspecting mechanic complied and left with his younger daughter.
Klang South police chief ACP Shamsul Amar Ramli said while sending the victim home, the suspect handed the girl his handphone to play a game.
He said while the victim was playing with the handphone, the suspect caressed her breasts and private part.
Shamsul said after the girl was dropped off at her house, she related to her grandmother what the man had done to her.
He said the woman called up her son and alerted him of the sexual assault on his daughter before the man lodged a police report on Monday.
"We traced the suspect and arrested him at a food stall in Port Klang past midnight on Tuesday. We have seized his handphone and car for investigations. Our records show he was freed from prison in 2005 after serving a sentence for rape and robbery," he said.
