MIRI:Sarawak DAP has decided not to announce its candidate for the Pujut by-election, pending a decision by the Kuching High Court tomorrow morning.
State DAP chairman Chong Chieng Jen (pix) said the party's legal team had informed him this morning that the presiding judge, Datuk Douglas Primus Sikayun would deliver the verdict at 9am tomorrow.
"Out of respect for the court process, we will withhold announcement of the candidate," he told reporters at the Miri DAP office here today.
Former Pujut assemblyman Dr Ting Tiong Choon has filed an originating summons at the Kuching High Court Registry on June 7 to challenge his dismissal by the State Legislative Assembly.
On May 12, Dr Ting was disqualified as Pujut assemblyman after a motion in the state assembly was tabled to disqualify him for allegedly acquiring an Australian citizenship in 2012. — Bernama
