KUCHING: Sarawak PKR information chief Vernon Kedit today lodged a report with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) seeking an investigation to ascertain if there are irregularities in the Julau PKR membership status.
Kedit arrived at the Sarawak MACC Office at Jalan Laksamana Cheng Ho here at 10.25am accompanied by Sarawak PKR vice-chairman See Chee How, Sarawak PKR secretary Nicholas Bawin and other state PKR leaders.
"We would like to request the MACC to conduct a thorough and exhaustive investigation into these grave matters to ascertain if there were any abuse of power or misuse of power by certain party leaders in covering up the irregularities and illegalities stated in my statutory declaration (SD).
"Our party's image and credibility have now come under public scrutiny because my SD was viralled and its contents are now in public domain," he told reporters at the Sarawak MACC office here. Kedit later submitted his SD to the MACC to further facilitate investigation into the matter.
The SD, dated Oct 17, raises suspicion on the existence of bogus members in the Julau branch, which is said to have marred the party polls.
The Julau PKR branch membership was reported to have surged from only 603 on June 26 to 13,000 a day later.
Meanwhile, Bawin said they are left with no choice but to bring the matter to the MACC as the irregularities and illegalities which they complained about within the party channels have been ignored.
"Our party secretary-general (Datuk Saifuddin Nasution Ismail) issued a statement which was reported in the press yesterday that all membership lists have been finalised and our complaints have exceeded the period for objections," he said.
