Security guard pleads not guilty to supporting Daesh militant group

KUALA LUMPUR: A security guard pleaded not guilty in the High Court here today to two counts of supporting and possessing materials related to the Daesh militant group.
Zefrul Hashim, 39, made the plea before Judge Datuk Azman Abdullah.
He was charged with knowingly giving support to the Daesh and Abu Sayyaf terrorist groups by encouraging an individual known as 'Zahra Alisya' through a conversation on Facebook Messenger using an account with the name 'Abu Qaqa'.
He was alleged to have committed the offence at Tingkat Perpaduan 22, Taman Perpaduan, Ulu Kinta, Perak, between Feb 18 and March 9, 2017.
The charge, under Section 130 (1) (a) of the Penal Code and punishable under subsection 130J (1) of the same act, carries an imprisonment for life or imprisonment for a term not exceeding 30 years, or with fine, and shall also be liable to forfeiture of assets involved, upon conviction.

On the second count, Zefrul was charged with possessing 109 images and 116 video clips related to the Daesh terrorist acts on his mobile phone at 3.50 pm on March 6 at the same place.
The charge, under Section 130JB (1) (a) of the Penal Code, provides an imprisonment for up to seven years or with fine and shall also be liable to forfeiture of any such item, upon conviction.
The prosecution was conducted by deputy public prosecutor Norfaida Mohd Rashidee.
The court did not allow bail and fixed Dec 14 for mention. — Bernama
