PETALING JAYA: The three security guards who gained hero status for standing up against an MMA fighter in Subang Jaya are in a spot of bother because they do not have valid work permits.
Subang Jaya district police chief ACP Mohammad Azlin Sadari was reported saying that initial investigations found the guards did not have valid work permits although they did have valid passports.
"Their employer will be called up to have a statement taken," he said.
He was reported saying that although the video shows that the guards were fending off the man, police will still investigate the incidents leading up to the brawl that went viral on social media.
The four men have been in police custody since Tuesday and their remand order ends today.
A series of videos showing the man being pinned down and tied by four security guards spread through the Internet.
The incident reportedly happened after the man tried to kick one of the guards and also allegedly threw a punch at a guard earlier.
A spokesman from the condominium management was quoted defending the security guards for protecting the residents, after they were promptly arrested following the brawl.
