KUALA LUMPUR: An elderly woman was charged in the Ampang magistrate's court here today for causing injury to her daughter-in-law during an argument over the custody rights of her grandchild at a tuition centre last July.
Loh Moy, 65, pleaded not guilty after the charge against her was read out in Cantonese in the presence of magistrate Mohamad Firdaus Sadina Ali.
Loh, a housewife, was charged with intentionally causing injury to Li Yao, 31, a Chinese national, at the office of the Super Education Group tuition centre in Jalan Besar Ampang, Ampang town here, at 12.25pm on July 15.
She was charged under Section 323 of the Penal Code which provides for a prison sentence of up to one year or fine up to RM2,000 or both, if found guilty.
Public prosecutor Shamsiah Noor Zakaria offered bail of RM3,000 with one surety, but Loh who was not represented by counsel, appealed for the amount to be reduced as she had no income and only brought RM500 to court.

Sobbingly she told the court that she had to support a daughter who was paralysed and a grandson, whose late father (her son) was the husband of the victim and had died in August last year.
Mohamad Firdaus allowed Loh bail of RM1,000 with one surety and fixed Nov 3 for a re-mention of the case.
It is understood that Loh argued with her daughter-in-law over the right to look after the 10-year-old grandson, who was Li's son. — Bernama
