Sg Buloh burst pipe completed, water service to resume in stages

PETALING JAYA: Repair works on the burst pipe in Sungai Buloh, which resulted in major water disruption in Kuala Lumpur and Gombak, has been completed, said the National Water Services Commission (Span).
Span chief executive officer Datuk Mohd Ridhuan Ismail said the repair works were completed at 2.30am Monday and water service resumed a few hours later.
He added that Pengurusan Air Selangor (AiS) had activated the emergency action plan immediately after the burst pipe was detected.
"Due to the size of the pipe, the drying process consumed a long time before repair works could take place.
"Span had directed AiS to speed up repair works … to reduce consumers' difficulty. The weather factor had also affected the progress of repair works," he said in a statement.
Meanwhile, Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor (Syabas) in a statement said water supply in the affected areas would resume in stages, based on the water level at its service pool.
"For premises situated on high ground and at the end of the distribution system, it will take some time before the service can be fully restored," it said.
Consumers can log on to www.syabas.com.my, or by going through the smartphone application "mySyabas", to get updates on the water supply recovery status.
The burst on the 1850 millimetre pipe on Saturday had caused more than 350 areas in KL and Gombak to experience temporary water cuts.
Syabas in an immediate statement had said that it would take about 36 hours for the repair works to be completed.
