Six Pasir Gudang pupils suspected of having influenza

JOHOR BARU: Six pupils from four primary schools in Pasir Gudang, Johor, were yesterday found to be suffering from suspected influenza.
Johor director of education Shaharudin Sharif, when contacted, confirmed the matter, saying all the pupils were found to have prolonged fever and other influenza-related symptoms.
"I was informed by the schools. However, I have not yet obtained detailed information on the condition of the pupils," he said.
The pupils had been told to stay home to prevent the spread of the disease and the management of the schools had taken the appropriate measures.
Shaharudin named the affected schools as Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Taman Bukit Dahlia, Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Cina (SJKC) Chien Chi, SJKC Masai and SK Taman Scientex.
Meanwhile, Johor Health, Environment, Education and Information Committee chairman Datuk Ayub Rahmat said a Standard Two pupil of SK Taman Dahlia was admitted to a private hospital on Sunday and was confirmed to be suffering from Influenza A.
"The pupil was discharged healthy yesterday," he said in a statement here today.
Ayub said that after the school was informed of the matter by the pupil's mother, they took proactive steps by transferring all the pupils to another classroom in order the clean the vacated classroom.
Subsequently, the Health Department conducted a search for other Influenza A cases in the school.
"To date, only one case of Influenza A was detected at the school. The Health Department will continue to monitor the situation from time to time via the closest health clinics," he said. — Bernama
