BUKIT MERTAJAM: Despite suffering from a distorted vision problem, called "Keratoconus" 20-year-old Mohamad Amir Sukardi came out with flying colours in the Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) examinations.
Mohamad Amir was a beacon of joy when he went to get his results from SMK Penanti here, today.
He scored 3As and 1C, with a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.42.
"I am really happy with the results. With my problem, I have to hold books and the exam papers very close to my eyes.
"I was diagnosed with this disease about two years ago and have since accepted it as fate," he said.
He said he had never considered his disease as a disability and never let it hamper his studies.
Mohamad Amir managed to score A- in General Studies and Malay Studies, Business Studies (A) and a C+ for Economics.
Keratoconus is a non-inflammatory eye condition in which the normally round dome-shaped clear window of the eye (cornea) progressively thins causing a cone-like bulge to develop.
This eventually impairs the ability of the eye to focus properly, potentially causing poor vision.
