Sunway Malls takes HFMD precautions

FOLLOWING recent reports of the rise in Hand-Foot-Mouth Disease (HFMD) in Malaysia, Sunway Malls and Kimberley-Clark are placing additional hand sanitizers at Sunway Pyramid, Sunway Velocity Mall and Sunway Putra Mall.
Sunway Malls COO Kevin Tan said it is only natural that corporations come together in this time of need to lessen the possibility of HFMD spreading in malls.
"It has been found that shopping carts or trolleys are one of the main carriers of HFMD in Penang. Chances are, it is the same throughout Malaysia. As a mall operator managing several malls, we need to play a role in protecting our shoppers, especially children. And with Kimberley-Clark on board as our corporate partner, we know we can do more for our patrons by adding the provision of Kleenex hand sanitizers in the malls," said Tan.
The additional hand sanitizers will be placed at the concierge areas. Signboards and advisory messages will be put up to encourage shoppers with children to use these at the malls.
"Kimberley-Clark has also offered their Scott antibacterial wipes, available at our concierge, suitable for wiping baby strollers," Tan added.
Hand sanitizers are also available at Sunway Malls' baby rooms, except Sunway Giza Mall.
Tan assures that the malls follow a strict standard operating procedure when it comes to the operational aspects of the mall. Baby strollers are sanitised after every use by the concierge team.
The housekeeping team also ensures areas and elements that people often gather and interact at, such as the indoor playground, baby rooms, benches and escalator belts, are sanitised up to four times a day, between 10am and 10pm. Moreover, all of Sunway's malls are ISO 9001:2015 certified.
"These are efforts we can carry out within our capacity and since reports that HFMD this round is being spread via trolleys, we have been in touch with all our supermarkets and grocery stores and were assured that they do sanitise their trolleys," Tan informed.
