Take a bumboat down Singapore's river

BUMBOATS are what they call water taxis in Singapore and in this island republic there are two companies that offer the service - Singapore River Cruise and Singapore River Explorer.
Used either as public transportation or as a river tour it is something not to be missed when visiting this country.
Both companies that offer the service follow similar routes with stops at the Esplanade, Boat Quay, Clarke Quay, Clemenceau, and Robertson Quay. A one-stop trip is priced at SG$3 (RM9.40) and 40-minute River tours are offered at SG$25 (RM78.50).
Boats can carry between 20 to 45 people. Sometimes they are chartered for special occasions.
Not only does it provide you with a romantic ride up and down the river, bumboat rides also offer a scenic view of the city.
Among the landmarks you might see along your route are the Merlion, a statue that is located at one end of the Marina Bay Waterfront, Marina Bay Sands (a popular selfie spot) with its three towers, and a one hectare roof Terrance and also statue of Sir Stamford Raffles the founder of modern day Singapore.
We took a trip recently organized by the Singapore Tourism Board from Clark Quay to Clifford Bay and back. Clifford Bay was the original shoreline of this part of the island state before land reclaiming works were carried out. You can sit inside or enjoy the wind blowing outside on the deck.
The view is spectacular with the boat going under several bridges and passing several architectural masterpieces. You will be amazed at how green this city is despite being a bustling metropolis.
