SUNGAI PETANI: The three Peninsular Malaysia east coast states recorded the highest number of offences when the 2017 Festive Season Price Control Scheme (Hari Raya Puasa) was implemented from from June 17 to 30, said Domestic Trade, Co-operatives and Consumerism Ministry (KPDNKK) enforcement director Datuk Mohd Roslan Mahayudin .
He said said Terengganu, Pahang and Kelantan recorded 14, 12 and 11 cases respectively.
"During the 14 days we carried out inspections on 23,661 business premises nationwide, 932 were on wholesalers' outlets and 22,729 inspections on retailers' premises.
"A total of 74 legal actions were taken against traders for various offences, and Terengganu, Pahang and Kelantan, recorded the highest number of offences while other states such as Kedah and Perlis had less than 10 cases," he told a press conference at the KPDNKK Sungai Petani branch office here, today.
Also present were KPDNKK Kedah branch enforcement chief Shamsul Nizam Khalil and Sungai Petani branch chief, Sha'arani Miskat.
Mohd Roslan said there was a drop in the number of legal action as traders and consumers were more cooperative this year.
"Apart from that, there were no serious issues affecting price. In fact no complaints were received on excessive price increase of the goods and I hope this situation will continue not only during the festive seasons," he said.
Meanwhile, Mohd Roslan said the value of seizures during the implementation of the price control scheme this year was RM7,192.98 compared to RM40,800 last year, while the compounds imposed amounted to RM9,100 from RM59,940 last year. — Bernama
