There is no such thing, I do not condone her actions: Hilmi

GEORGE TOWN: Deputy Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Hilmi Yahaya said he does not know a 20-year-old woman who pleaded guilty to running an unlicensed dental service in Malacca.
He also denied making a financial contribution to a fund-raising initiative by two consumer associations to help the woman pay a RM70,000 court fine last month.
"There is no such thing, I do not condone her actions," he said during a press conference after officiating at the psychological counseling month ceremony at Komtar, today.
However, the Balik Pulau MP admitted that a friend of his did come to see him about helping the woman.
He said in his capacity as a member of parliament, he made a call to the ministry director general and asked whether the woman could be reprimanded with only a fine or a compound.
At that point, Hilmi said he was informed that the matter had become a criminal investigation and had been brought to court.
"When the case enters the court, as usual I don't interfere," he said.
He was responding to claims on social media that the bogus dentist Nur Farahanis Ezatty Adli, who was found guilty by the sessions court in Malacca for running an unregistered private dental clinic, received support from Hilmi and his private secretary Aziaan Ariffin.
In an Instagram post, Nur Farahanis claimed that her “practice” was approved by the Health Ministry.
She also expressed thanks to both Hilmi and Aziaan.
The sessions court in Malacca on Sept 29 had fined her RM70,000, in default six months' jail.
As she could not pay the fine, she was sent to the Sungai Udang Prison.
The Malaysian Muslim Consumers Association (PPIM) and the Malaysia Islamic Economic Activist Organisation (PPEM) which stepped in to help her start a crowd-funding campaign, managed to raise the RM70,000 to pay the fine within six days.
