Thieves sell stolen motorcycles to illegal immigrants

SHAH ALAM: Motorcycle thieves have been supplying illegal immigrants here with stolen motorcycles cheaply.
Shah Alam district police chief ACP Baharudin Mat Taib said the suspects will steal motorcycles, dismantle the vehicle's components before selling them cheaply to immigrants in Sri Muda, here.
He said the number of motorcycle thefts in the district has risen with 49 cases (44.14%) in the first two months compared with the same period last year.
"A special action team called 'Taskforce Lejang' had been set up to combat such theft. The team conducted an operation from the beginning of February to Wednesday.
"Police picked up 23 men and a woman aged from 17 to 35 from four separate motorcycle theft syndicates. The syndicates were identified as Geng Ayie, Geng Iwan, Geng Shukri Botak and Geng Syafik 18," he told reporters at the district police headquarters here today.
These syndicates usually targets Myanmar immigrants in Sri Muda and each stolen bike priced within RM900 to RM2,000.
Baharudin added the suspects also allowed their "customers" to pay for the stolen bike in installment.
Police seized 20 stolen motorcycles, 12 motorcycle parts, and tools used for stealing motorcycles.
At least 30 cases of motorcycle thefts here have been solved by police in the district.
Meanwhile, police picked up nine Thais in connection with illegal manufacture and sale of ketum leaves, water and ketum laced cough mixture
In the operation on Wednesday, police also seized 82 ketum laced cough mixture, 44 plastic bags containing ketum leaves and 35 packets of the contraband liquid.
Baharudin said the operation took place about 3.30pm at an apartment in Section 17 here, which resulted in the arrest nine men and a woman.
The suspects were detained under Section 30 (3) of the Poison Act 1952 to facilitate investigations.
