Three die, one seriously injured in three-vehicle accident in Gerik

GERIK: Three were killed and one seriously injured in an accident involving two high-powered motorcycles and a car at KM24.2, Gerik-Jeli East-West Highway (JRTB), yesterday.
In the 4pm incident, two of the victims, Perodua Bezza car driver Ahmad Shadrul Amin Mohd Sauki, 22, from Besut, Terengganu and a motorcycle rider, yet to be identified, both died at the scene.
Another motorcycle rider, Mohd Rosli Hussin from Machang, Kelantan, died about three hours later while receiving treatment at the Gerik Hospital while seriously injured Muhamad Aziman Mahamood, from Machang, Kelantan, the passenger of the Perodua Bezza car, was sent to the Taiping Hospital.
Gerik district police chief Supt Ismail Che Isa said initial investigation found that two students of the higher education institute were travelling in the car and on the way to Gerik when it grazed one of the high-powered motorcycles from the opposite direction as it was navigating a bend on a slope.
"Another high-powered motorcycle that was trailing behind the first motorcycle was trying to avoid collision, skidded and crashed into the wall instead. Meanwhile, the car spun around and crashed into metal barrier on the left.
"The first motorcycle that had contact with the car earlier, has lost control, skidded and was thrown into the drain," he said in a statement here today, adding that further investigation was carried out under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. — Bernama
