PASIR PUTEH: Majority of the 516 traders at the Pasir Puteh Main market here will not move to the Siti Hajar market until a decision is made by the Court of Appeal on a judicial review application submitted by them last Aug.
Chairman of the Petty Trader and Suppliers at the Pasir Puteh Main Market, Kamarzaman Che Ngah said the traders concerned would only move to the new market if the court ruling was not in their favour.
"Now we are waiting for decision on the appeal and in the mean time, we hope the Pasir Puteh District Council (MDPP) could postpone the order for us to move to the new market to next Sunday," he told reporters when met at the Pasir Puteh Main Market here today.
MDPP president Mohd Anis Hussein had issued a notice for the traders to start moving to the Siti Hajar Market today.
Last Aug 27, the Kota Baru High Court allowed an application by MDPP to strike out a suit filed by 258 traders at the Pasir Puteh Main Market.
Judge Datuk Ahmad Bache dismissed the suit by the traders on grounds that it was immature and that there was no concrete evidence that allowed the traders to claim damages from the council.
Kamarzaman said the traders refused to move to the new market because the space allotted to them was smaller, its location and high rental of RM200 a month from RM1 daily at the old market. — Bernama
