ALOR STAR: The Kedah Wildlife and National Parks Department (Perhilitan) has seized 12 eagles reared by a man in his house in Bukit Jenun, Pendang, here yesterday.
Its director, Inche Ali@Muhammad Ali Che Aman said the raid which was carried out at 2pm found the birds of various species with an estimated worth of thousands of ringgit in the man's house compounds.
"The investigations found that the man, aged 41 years, did not have any valid documents from the Wildlife Department to keep the birds which are of the scheduled species under the Wildlife Conservation Act 2010 (Act 716).
"Among the species seized were the Lang Sika (Accipiter trivirgatus), Lang Malam (Machearhamphus alcinus), Lang Hindek (Spizaetus cirrhatus) and the collared Falconet (Microhietax caerulescens)," he said in a statement today.
He said the department would be seeking a court order to release the eagles into their natural habitat.
The case is being investigated under Section 68(2)(a) which provides for a fine of up to RM100,000 or imprisonment up to three years, or both. — Bernama
