BAGAN SERAI: The Yayasan Bina Upaya (YBU) has allocated about RM1.05 million to help 7,000 students through its 'Back to School' programme for next year's school session.
The foundation's Customer Services Department head, Mohd Khair Ahmad Ghazali said the contribution consisting of items such as school bags, stationery and school uniforms was worth RM150 for each student.
"The students are the children of e-Kasih recipients, poor families and orphans. They are selected through the respective state assemblymen's offices," he told reporters after the handing-out of the contribution by Alor Pongsu assemblyman Datuk Sham Mat Sahat at the Sakan supermarket, here, today.
A total of 360 students received the contribution at the event.
Mohd Khair said the 'Back to School' programme which started in 2014 was one of the efforts carried out by the state government through YBU to help those in need, with some 2,000 recipients at the initial stage. — Bernama
