KUCHING: Sarawak today became home to Malaysia’s first Transitioning Industrial Cluster (TIC) under the World Economic Forum’s global initiative, placing it among 39 industrial clusters worldwide, driving industrial transformation and energy transition.

Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo said the newly launched TIC located in Bintulu would also serve as a real-world platform for Malaysia to advance its AI Nation 2030 agenda by enabling the deployment of AI, digital twins and automation technologies in industrial settings.

“Today, we are launching more than a cluster. We are launching a platform for innovation, industrial competitiveness, sustainability and opportunity.

“We are also demonstrating how Malaysia’s ambitions in artificial intelligence, digital transformation and industrial development can come together to create real economic impact,“ he said in his speech at the Bintulu TIC launch at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching today.

Gobind said the cluster would function as a platform to translate national priorities into measurable outcomes by bringing together industrial transformation, energy transition and digital innovation, while creating new opportunities for investment, job creation and long-term economic growth.

He said the future of industry would be shaped by those prepared to lead change rather than react to it, adding that Sarawak has positioned itself at the forefront of industrial and energy transition.

“Sarawak has chosen to lead. Malaysia has chosen to lead. Together, we will build a future that is more competitive, more sustainable and more prosperous for all Malaysians,” Gobind said.

The minister said the milestone reflects the country’s ambition to boost economic competitiveness, accelerate industrial transformation and position Malaysia as a leader in future industries.

The Bintulu TIC was established through a collaboration involving the Sarawak government, the Ministry of Digital, Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry, MyDigital Corporation’s Malaysia Centre for the Fourth Industrial Revolution (MYCentre4IR), the WEF, and industry stakeholders.

Gobind also announced the establishment of MYCentre4IR’s 4IR Intelligence Network Community, a platform that brings together stakeholders from government, industry, academia and the technology ecosystem to strengthen collaboration and support the adoption of emerging technologies.

“More details will be shared by MYCentre4IR in the coming weeks,” he added.
