SEREMBAN: Negeri Sembilan’s local authorities (PBTs) have added several additional conditions for a business licence, including that licence owners are required to register their Inland Revenue Board (LHDN) file number as part of the licence approval process.

State Local Government Development, Housing and Transport Committee chairman, J. Arul Kumar, said that the move was to address the issue of foreigners dominating business, especially in Nilai and Seremban, and to curb Ali Baba’s business culture in the state.

Other additional conditions include that each business premises being approved to run one type of business only and that the licence owner or trader (Malaysian) must be at the premises at all times of business operation.

“Foreigners are not allowed to work as cashiers; a maximum of two foreign workers, who have a valid permit and are only allowed to work in the retail and trade sectors.

“License holders also need to update the list of their foreign workers, and must display the list of their workers in the premises, with complete information such as name, nationality, passport number, gender and the duration of the work permit,” he said, at a press conference on the additional conditions for issuing business licences, here today.

He said that, in addition, business premises owners are required to display their income tax number and tax compliance certificate. All these additional conditions are with immediate effect.

The impact of the conditions, he added, can ensure that business owners do not arbitrarily rent out their licences to other individuals, especially foreigners, and address the problems and complaints of local traders regarding the dumping of foreign traders in the state.

He added that among the businesses monopolised by foreigners are retail, curtain businesses, carpets, restaurants, barber shops and so on.

Arul said that, for the night markets and farmer’s markets, foreigners are not allowed to do business, and the PBTs will seize the business if found to be illegal. - Bernama
