KOTA BHARU: Two men were detained yesterday for conducting speed tests on public roads during Op Samseng Jalanan in Pasir Tumboh and Peringat.

The Kota Bharu District police chief, ACP Mohd Rosdi Daud, stated that the actions of both the 39-year-old car driver and the 19-year-old motorcyclist were deemed potentially life-threatening.

He said the operation was conducted by the Investigation and Traffic Enforcement Division of the Kota Bharu District Police Headquarters to deter drivers and motorcyclists from disturbing public peace at night through reckless driving, endangering not only themselves but also other road users.

“In the course of the operation, 63 motorcycles and cars were inspected and 85 summonses were issued for various traffic violations, including exhaust modifications and driving without a license,“ stated ACP Mohd Rosdi Daud in a statement last night.

Following the two arrests, police seized a car and two motorcycles under Sections 60 and 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 and remanded the men until tomorrow.
