KUCHING: A total of 900,000 face masks arrived here today via a chartered Malaysia Airlines Cargo (MASkargo) flight for use by healthcare personnel in Sarawak in their battle against Covid-19.
The flight MH6496 that departed from Shanghai, China at 10.18am (local time) touched down at the Kuching International Airport here at 3.43pm.
On hand to receive the items was Sarawak Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.
Abdul Karim said the state government had spent RM6.5 million for the purchase of medical supplies and RM1.7 million to bear the cost of the chartered flight.
“Apart from the face masks, other items that arrived today are 50,000 units of medical protective goggles, 125,880 units of KN95 respirators, 50,040 units of medical protective overalls and 50,040 units of medical protective shoe covers,” he told reporters, here today.
Abdul Karim said the state Disaster Management Committee would distribute the medical supplies to all hospitals and health clinics in Sarawak in the near future. - Bernama
