BTS announces world tour, first in four years after military service

BTS will launch their first world tour in four years in April, spanning 34 cities with 79 shows following the release of a new album in March.

SEOUL: K-pop superstars BTS will launch their first world tour in four years this April. Their label, HYBE, announced the hotly-anticipated comeback following the group’s hiatus for mandatory military service.

The tour will span 34 cities with 79 performances, marking the largest-ever single tour by a K-pop group in terms of total shows. HYBE stated it will also have the “widest regional reach for a South Korean artist.”

The tour begins in Goyang, South Korea on April 9. It will then move to Japan, the United States, and Europe before concluding in Manila in March 2027.

More cities will be announced, including additional stops in Japan and the Middle East. The tour follows the release of a new, yet-unnamed album scheduled for March.

This will be their first album since the 2022 anthology “Proof,” which was South Korea’s bestselling record that year. The seven-member group completed their required national military service last year.

BTS’s loyal fanbase, known as ARMY, reacted with elation to the news on social media. One fan joked about selling a kidney to afford tickets, while another referenced the competitive rush for seats as “Army hunger games.”

The group is a major economic force in South Korea. Prior to their hiatus, they generated over 5.5 trillion won (USD 3.7 billion) annually for the country’s economy.

That figure equated to roughly 0.2% of South Korea’s total GDP. HYBE’s shares rose around 3% on the news of the world tour.

Investment bank IBK Securities projected the firm’s operating profits would soar tenfold this year compared to 2025. Analyst Kim Yu-hyuk said, “Based on the full tour schedule, around 4.5 million people are expected to attend.”
