Flood victims in Kedah decrease to 264 people while Perak maintains 124 evacuees, with Sungai Kinta water levels at alert stage.
KUALA LUMPUR: The flood situation in Kedah has improved tonight with a reduction in the number of victims.
Kedah’s flood victim count dropped to 264 people from 61 families as of 8 pm.
This represents a decrease from the 329 victims from 81 families recorded this morning.
All evacuees from Pendang district continue to shelter at two relief centres.
The temporary relief centres are the Tanah Merah Sports Complex Hall and Sekolah Kebangsaan Tunku Intan Shafinaz.
In Perak, the flood situation remains unchanged with the same number of evacuees.
The state continues to house 124 people from 33 families at the relief centre.
These victims are sheltering at Sekolah Agama Rakyat Padang Serai in Manjung district.
Meanwhile, Sungai Kinta in the Kinta district has reached alert level status.
The river recorded a water level of 248.02 metres according to the latest readings.
This measurement exceeds the normal level of 243.50 metres for the river.
The Department of Irrigation and Drainage continues to monitor the situation closely.– Bernama
