Additional ETS tickets for KL-JB route on sale from tomorrow

KTMB releases 12,600 extra ETS tickets for Chinese New Year travel between KL Sentral and JB Sentral, addressing high demand.

KUALA LUMPUR: Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) will begin selling 12,600 additional Electric Train Service tickets for the KL Sentral-JB Sentral route from 12.15am tomorrow.

Transport Minister Anthony Loke said this addresses strong demand after all 131,879 tickets for travel between February 13 and 22 were sold out.

The extra capacity follows approval for a seventh ETS3 train set to enter service. Loke announced the ticket release when replying to a question in the Dewan Rakyat today.

He also revealed KTMB will introduce a new ‘EMU Plus’ service on the KL Sentral-Ipoh route using a Six Car Set. This offers 7,344 additional seats on key travel dates, with sales currently at 43%.

“Overall, KTMB is providing 46,404 additional tickets for this year’s Chinese New Year,” Loke said. This marks a 426% increase from the 8,820 extra tickets offered last year.

The boost is due to the addition of seven ETS3 sets and near 24-hour ETS operations during the festive period.

Meanwhile, preparations for Hari Raya Aidilfitri show strong early demand. Already, 118,823 tickets, or 53% of the 224,196 available for travel between March 13 and 29, have been sold.
