Federal Court sets January dates for Cradle Fund CEO murder appeal

The Federal Court will hear the prosecution’s appeal in the Nazrin Hassan murder case over three days in January 2025

PUTRAJAYA: The Federal Court has fixed three days in January next year to hear the prosecution’s appeal against the acquittal of three individuals charged with murdering former Cradle Fund CEO Nazrin Hassan.

The appeal hearing for Samirah Muzaffar and two teenagers is scheduled for January 5, 7, and 9, 2025.

Lawyer Muhammad Farhan Muhammad Shafee confirmed the new dates for his clients.

An earlier hearing set for November this year was vacated.

The Court of Appeal had upheld the trio’s acquittal on February 8, 2024.

That decision affirmed a Shah Alam High Court ruling from June 21, 2022, which found the prosecution failed to establish a prima facie case.

Samirah, 50, who is Nazrin’s widow, and the two teenagers, now aged 22 and 19, were charged along with an Indonesian woman still at large.

They were accused of killing the 45-year-old Nazrin at his Mutiara Damansara home between June 13 and 14, 2018.

The Court of Appeal found insufficient evidence to prove the accused persons’ guilt.

It also ruled there was not enough proof the fire at the scene was deliberately set, citing contradictory evidence from investigators.

The court held that testimony and analysis concerning petrol found were not conducted using certified methods.

Investigators were found to have skipped crucial steps required for a proper forensic analysis. – Bernama
