A former tahfiz teacher in Kulim pleads not guilty to causing hurt to an 11-year-old student, with bail set at RM2,000 and the case set for mention in March
KULIM: A former teacher at a tahfiz school pleaded not guilty to causing injury to an 11-year-old male student.
Muhammad Abdullah Abu Bakar, 26, was charged at the Magistrate’s Court here with voluntarily causing hurt to the victim at the school hostel in Sungai Kob.
The alleged offence occurred at around 10 pm on Sept 29 last year.
The charge is framed under Section 323 of the Penal Code, which carries a penalty of up to one year in prison, a fine of up to RM2,000, or both.
Deputy public prosecutor R. Jayasri requested bail to be set at RM8,000.
The accused’s lawyer appealed for minimum bail, stating his client had been dismissed and had no income.
Magistrate Nur Hamizah Mat Shah set bail at RM2,000 with one surety.
She also ordered the accused not to harass the victim or witnesses until the case is resolved.
The court set March 3 for the next mention date.
