SEREMBAN: A 63-year-old man pleaded not guilty to five charges related to an improvised explosive device case in Nilai.
Yeoh Hock Sun made the plea before Sessions Court Judge Datin Surita Budin at the Tuanku Ja’afar Hospital, where proceedings were held in his patient ward.
He was charged with possessing explosives in a manner giving rise to reasonable suspicion at Apartment Desa Palma, Nilai on December 22.
Further charges allege possession of explosives found in a Proton Wira at Star Valley parking lot later that same day.
A final possession charge relates to explosives found on a main road in Kampung Batang Benar, Mantin on December 27.
These offences fall under Section 3 of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act 1958.
The act carries a penalty of up to seven years’ imprisonment and whipping.
Yeoh also faces a charge of mischief for allegedly using explosives to damage a Mitsubishi L200 Triton vehicle on December 22.
This charge is under Section 435 of the Penal Code, which provides for up to 14 years in prison and a fine.
A fifth charge alleges he maliciously used an IED to cause injury, under a separate section of the explosives act.
Deputy public prosecutor Norazihah Asmuni handled the case, while the accused was unrepresented.
Judge Surita Budin ruled that no bail should be granted and set the next mention for February 12.
Police had earlier reported finding a suspected IED following an explosion in the Desa Palma area on December 22.
