Thai man charged with trafficking RM11 million in drugs

A Thai national faces charges for trafficking 331kg of drugs worth RM11 million and admitted to self-administering methamphetamine.

JITRA: A Thai man was charged in the Magistrate’s Court here today with trafficking 331 kilogrammes of drugs worth nearly RM11 million.

Muhammad Chemudo, 37, nodded in understanding after the charge was read before Magistrate Nor Syaliati Mohd Sobri.

No plea was recorded as the case falls under the jurisdiction of the High Court.

He was charged with trafficking methamphetamine in a forest area in Padang Terap at 7 am on December 9.

The charge, under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, carries a mandatory death sentence or life imprisonment upon conviction.

In the same court, Muhammad also faced a separate charge for self-administering amphetamine and methamphetamine.

He pleaded guilty to injecting the drugs in a police station toilet at 9.25 pm on the same day.

The court set April 21 for mention to appoint a Thai interpreter for the proceedings.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Nasruna Anhar Nordien conducted the prosecution, while the accused was unrepresented.
