Nine of 11 suspects in the AKPS commander shooting case have been released, with two still under remand as police continue their investigation
ALOR SETAR: Nine of the 11 suspects arrested in connection with the shooting of a Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) commander’s vehicle have been released.
Kedah police chief Adzli Abu Shah said the 10 local men and one Thai woman, aged between 22 and 60, were arrested around the Bukit Kayu Hitam area.
Seven of those released were granted a bond under Section 118 of the Criminal Procedure Code, while the other two were released on police bail.
Six of the nine individuals released were charged under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 after testing positive for drugs.
The two remaining suspects are still being detained for further investigation.
Adzli said police are continuing their investigation and reviewing evidence related to the criminal incident.
He stated that efforts to bring those responsible to justice are ongoing.
“Members of the public with information related to the case are urged to channel it to the police,” he said in a statement.
He advised using the MERS 999 hotline or contacting the investigating officer, ASP Rosli Hanafi, at 019-202 2210.
On February 25, a Proton X70 carrying AKPS Bukit Kayu Hitam commander Mohd Nasaruddin M Nasir was hit by two gunshots at about 5.40 am.
The incident occurred while he was on his way to Masjid Al Muhajirin, but he escaped unharmed.
