KUANTAN: Police have arrested a Form Five student for the alleged cigarette-burning assault of a Form One pupil at a school hostel in Bentong.

The 17-year-old suspect was detained yesterday by the Bentong District Police Headquarters following a report from the victim’s family.

Pahang police chief Datuk Seri Yahaya Othman said initial investigations found the incident occurred around midnight in a hostel toilet.

“The victim was allegedly ordered to smoke a cigarette but refused, leading the suspect to abuse him with cigarettes,” he stated.

The victim subsequently informed the hostel warden before being taken to Bentong Hospital for treatment.

Yahaya confirmed the victim sustained chest injuries and soft tissue damage, with cigarette burn marks found on his body.

The case is being investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means.

A conviction under this section carries a penalty of up to 10 years’ imprisonment, a fine, or whipping.
