Home minister urges Perlis mufti to report alleged Korean cult

Saifuddin Nasution calls on Perlis Mufti Mohd Asri to provide information to police for investigation into alleged deviant Korean cult

PUTRAJAYA: Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail has urged Perlis Mufti Datuk Dr Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin to immediately provide information on an alleged deviant cult movement from Korea.

Saifuddin Nasution said this was necessary to enable the Royal Malaysia Police to initiate an investigation into the claims.

“I invite Mohd Asri to come forward and provide complete information to the authorities,” he said at a press conference after attending the Home Ministry’s monthly assembly.

He was responding to questions on whether police had received any report regarding the alleged existence of the Korean cult movement.

The Perlis Mufti recently claimed on Facebook that several Muslim MPs and prominent individuals were involved in assisting the cult.

He also stated a briefing on the matter had been presented at the Perlis State Fatwa Committee meeting.

Saifuddin Nasution said the police Special Branch has a dedicated unit to handle deviant teachings across various religions.

Investigations can only proceed once police receive an official report, with any action guided by existing laws.

“So I urge Dr Maza to come forward and lodge a report,” he said, using Mohd Asri’s popular nickname.

He added that the investigation would begin immediately once a report is made. – Bernama
