Major raid uncovers counterfeit lubricant factories in Selangor

A total of 42 arrested and machinery seized in Kampung Baru Ampang operation.

KUALA LUMPUR: Forty-two people were detained during a major raid on counterfeit lubricant operations in Kampung Baru Ampang this morning.

Selangor Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry director Mohd Zuhairi Mat Radey confirmed 28 foreign nationals were among those arrested.

The operation targeted six factories suspected of producing, supplying and marketing fake vehicle lubricants of various brands.

Authorities seized processing machinery, bottling equipment and counterfeit lubricants valued at RM1 million.

“The six premises are located close to one another and had distinct roles, including producing lubricant bottles, processing and filling lubricants, storage and office operations,” Mohd Zuhairi told reporters.

The raid followed two months of intelligence gathering by the ministry, police and trademark representatives.

Investigators believe the suspects reprocessed used lubricants mixed with base oils and artificial colouring.

These counterfeit products were then packaged for sale in the local market.

All detainees face investigation under the Trade Marks Act 2019.

Convicted offenders could face fines up to RM10,000 per counterfeit item, imprisonment for up to three years, or both penalties. – Bernama
