Uncle remanded two days over viral child abuse video in PJ

A 38-year-old man faces remand for allegedly caning nephews and throwing a chair at them in Petaling Jaya

PETALING JAYA: A 38-year-old man accused of physically abusing his nephews has been placed under a two-day remand order to facilitate police investigations.

The suspect appeared before the court today, where authorities successfully obtained the remand order that will keep him in custody until tomorrow, according to Petaling Jaya district police chief Assistant Commissioner Shamsudin Mamat.

The detention came after a disturbing video showing children being caned and having a chair thrown at them inside a residence in Petaling Jaya circulated widely on social media.

Police confirmed receiving a formal report about the incident at 1:21pm yesterday from a local resident who brought the matter to authorities’ attention.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the incident occurred at a residential property in Petaling Jaya, with the suspect identified as the uncle of the young victims.

“Preliminary investigations found that the incident took place at a house here and the suspect is the uncle of the victims,” ACP Shamsudin stated in an official release today.

The children involved in the alleged abuse are between eight and 11 years old.

According to police findings, the violent episode is believed to have been triggered after the children allegedly retaliated against or acted defiantly toward the suspect’s mother, who would be their grandmother.

The case is being investigated under relevant child protection legislation, with authorities working to establish the full circumstances surrounding the alleged abuse.

The two-day remand period will allow investigators to conduct further interviews and gather additional evidence before determining the next steps in the case.
