MACC questions 12 individuals including ex-minister over alleged RM1.11 billion investment misappropriation.
PUTRAJAYA: A former minister and a ministry secretary-general are among 12 individuals who have provided statements to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) as part of an ongoing investigation into alleged misappropriation of RM1.11 billion in investments.
MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki confirmed that investigators have called in individuals from several government agencies and have obtained a number of related documents in connection with the probe.
“Important documents have been obtained from the relevant agencies and ministries. We are also looking at Cabinet Paper presentations in this case, and other witnesses are currently being called in,” he said at a media briefing on the investigation’s progress in Putrajaya today.
Azam also disclosed that one individual currently believed to be abroad has been categorised as a person of interest in the investigation.
The MACC has issued a public appeal through the media for the individual, understood to be in the United Kingdom, to return to Malaysia promptly to have their statement recorded.
“So far, there has been no response from this individual,” Azam said.
The chief commissioner urged all parties to remain patient as the investigation proceeds, giving assurances that every step of the process would be conducted transparently and fairly.
The MACC had previously confirmed receiving a report concerning the alleged misappropriation involving a former senior minister of a ministry.
Deputy Chief Commissioner (Operations) Datuk Seri Ahmad Khusairi Yahaya had stated that the commission would examine all reports received to determine whether any elements of corruption, misappropriation, or abuse of power exist under the MACC Act 2009, and that follow-up actions — including the review of documents and submitted evidence — would be carried out before any further investigation proceeded, in line with the commission’s commitment to integrity and transparency.
