Kedah Sultan urges universities to stay clear of politics, focus on knowledge

Sultan of Kedah calls for higher learning institutions to avoid political activities, emphasising their role in knowledge acquisition and national unity

SINTOK: The Sultan of Kedah has urged all parties not to turn institutions of higher learning into platforms for political activities.

Al Aminul Karim Sultan Sallehuddin Sultan Badlishah reminded that universities are meant for acquiring knowledge, not for spreading slander.

“If knowledge is used as a tool for politics and slander, it will destroy public trust and hinder the future of the coming generations,” His Royal Highness said.

He called upon all parties to unite in ensuring that Malaysian higher learning institutions uphold integrity and are anchored in truth.

Sultan Sallehuddin delivered this message at the 38th Convocation of Universiti Utara Malaysia at the university’s Dewan Mu’adzam Shah.

The Sultan, who is also Chancellor of UUM, emphasised that universities should serve as bridges of unity, not walls of division.

He also expressed pride in UUM’s achievements, noting the university is now ranked 491st in the world.

His Royal Highness highlighted UUM’s excellence in quality education and innovation.

Sultan Sallehuddin congratulated the 6,832 graduates receiving their degrees across nine convocation sessions running until November 13.

In his address, he advised graduates to apply their knowledge wisely and become individuals who build and unite society. – Bernama
