King presents instruments of appointment to five judges

Sultan Ibrahim grants audience and presents instruments of appointment to the Chief Judge of Malaya and four new Federal Court judges

KUALA LUMPUR: His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, granted an audience and presented instruments of appointment to five judges at Istana Negara.

The ceremony was held at the Bilik Singgahsana Kecil (Small Throne Room) on Tuesday.

Chief Judge of Malaya Datuk Hashim Hamzah was the first to receive his instrument of appointment.

Four Federal Court judges also received their instruments: Datuk Che Mohd Ruzima Ghazali, Datuk Mohd Nazlan Mohd Ghazali, Datuk Azimah Omar and Datuk Collin Lawrence Sequerah.

Chief Justice Datuk Seri Wan Ahmad Farid Wan Salleh attended the ceremony.

Also present were Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Institutional Reform) Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said and Attorney-General Tan Sri Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar.

Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar and the Keeper of the Rulers’ Seal Tan Sri Syed Danial Syed Ahmad were also in attendance.

Hashim, a former Court of Appeal judge, fills the vacancy left by Tan Sri Hasnah Hashim who retired on November 14.

Che Mohd Ruzima, Mohd Nazlan, Azimah Omar and Sequerah were all elevated from the Court of Appeal.
