Langkawi boat tragedy: 13 Myanmar migrants found after sinking

Two more Myanmar migrants were rescued off Langkawi, bringing the total found to 13 after a boat sank near the Malaysia-Thailand border.

LANGKAWI: Two more Myanmar migrants were found floating near Tuas Kuala Muda, Teriang this afternoon.

The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency confirmed the discovery at 3.11 pm, bringing the total number found to 13.

Local fishermen rescued the two men before transferring them to an MMEA vessel.

One woman among the 13 migrants has been confirmed dead.

MMEA Kedah and Perlis director First Admiral Romli Mustafa said a search-and-rescue operation was activated following the boat sinking near Pulau Tarutao.

The operation began yesterday after several suspected Myanmar migrants were found in Langkawi waters.

The sinking occurred close to the Malaysia-Thailand maritime border. – Bernama
