LCS status and social media age verification in Parliament focus

Dewan Rakyat to discuss LCS sea trials, social media age verification rules, and sports facilities, with a briefing from the defence minister.

KUALA LUMPUR: The status of the first Littoral Combat Ship and proposed age verification for social media users are key topics for today’s Dewan Rakyat sitting.

According to the Order Paper, Datuk Seri Ikmal Hisham Abdul Aziz will ask the defence minister about the sea trial performance of KD Maharajalela.

He will inquire if the vessel can be commissioned as scheduled by August 2026.

Syerleena Abdul Rashid will then ask the communications minister about regulating age verification on social media platforms.

Her question focuses on the proposal involving citizens providing personal details to foreign-based platforms.

Datuk Seri Dr Shahidan Kasim will ask the youth and sports minister why Malaysia lacks an internationally rated athletics stadium and a dedicated sports university.

He will also seek plans for modern sports facilities to ensure athletes remain competitive internationally.

Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin is expected to brief the house on current developments within the Malaysian Armed Forces.

The sitting will then continue with the debate on the Motion of Thanks for the Royal Address.

The Dewan Rakyat session is scheduled for 20 days, running until March 3.
