Malaysia and Singapore welcome temporary West Asia ceasefire

Malaysia and Singapore back a temporary ceasefire in West Asia, urging a lasting resolution and highlighting regional impacts on energy and supply chains.

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia and Singapore have jointly welcomed a temporary ceasefire involving the United States, Iran, Israel and Lebanon.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the understanding was reached during a phone conversation with his Singaporean counterpart Lawrence Wong.

The leaders discussed the latest developments in the West Asia conflict and its growing impact on global energy and supply chains.

Anwar stressed the urgent need for all parties to back a more comprehensive and lasting resolution.

He also emphasised the importance of maintaining freedom and security in the Strait of Hormuz in line with international law.

Malaysia supports ongoing diplomatic efforts, including Pakistan’s role in paving the way for dialogue.

Discussions also focused on efforts to strengthen grid system resilience and balance energy demand and supply.

This includes accelerating the implementation of the ASEAN Power Grid as a regional strategic measure.

Anwar stated that Malaysia and ASEAN will strive to remain resilient against global uncertainties.

This will be achieved through close cooperation and a people-centred approach.
