Melaka Fire and Rescue Department to expand use of BRV 2025 vacuum device for bee and wasp operations, replacing burning and insecticides.
MELAKA: The Melaka Fire and Rescue Department plans to expand the use of an innovative vacuum device for bee and wasp operations.
The BRV 2025 tool will replace the previous practices of burning nests or using insecticides.
Melaka JBPM director Mohd Zaidi Ma’at said the device allows bees to be safely vacuumed and relocated.
“This suction system reduces risks to firefighters and residents,” he said.
It also supports conservation by allowing bees to be moved to safer areas or given to beekeepers.
The innovation has been registered with the Intellectual Property Corporation of Malaysia.
Further improvements are being made through research with Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka.
The tool was developed by the Ayer Keroh Fire and Rescue Station.
It was recently named champion at the 2025 Innovative and Creative Group competition.
Mohd Zaidi said the win reflects the department’s success in producing a high-impact tool.
“This achievement shows that Melaka JBPM excels not only in operations but also in innovation,” he said.
He also thanked personnel for their performance in the 2025 Five-Star Rating Audit.
The department earned four stars in the national audit.
“Only two states achieved five stars, and Melaka JBPM is among seven states awarded four stars,” he added.
He said it reflects the commitment and hard work of all officers and staff.
The department aims for even higher ratings in the future.
