Penang JPJ targets 12 high-risk accident zones for CNY

Penang’s JPJ focuses on 12 accident-prone areas during its Chinese New Year enforcement blitz, deploying all 168 officers and using body cameras for transparency.

BUKIT MERTAJAM: The Penang Road Transport Department (JPJ) is focusing on 12 identified hot spots and black spots during its special Chinese New Year 2026 enforcement operation.

Penang JPJ director Zulkifly Ismail said the locations span four zones across five districts, all known as high-risk areas with a history of frequent accidents.

“We’ve deployed all 168 officers to patrol these areas daily to ensure road safety and compliance with the law,” he told reporters at a media briefing last night.

He added that JPJ is expanding the use of body cameras to boost officer integrity and ensure operational transparency.

The body cameras, fully rolled out last month, also aid enforcement and provide evidence in cases of obstruction.

In an earlier integrated operation from 8.30 pm to midnight, authorities checked 584 vehicles.

A total of 167 vehicles faced action, with 184 notices issued for various offences.

The operation involved 61 officers from multiple agencies including the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT), the National Anti-Drug Agency, and the Department of Environment (DOE).

JSPT issued 10 summonses, while the DOE carried out 57 inspections.

The DOE also issued 11 compounds, 11 retest notices, and conducted 20 smoke meter tests.
