AKPS forms secretariat to tackle national e-waste issues

Malaysian Border Control sets up a secretariat to coordinate a national study on e-waste entry, management, and enforcement for more effective control.

SHAH ALAM: The Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) has established a dedicated secretariat to support a new national committee on electronic waste.

The secretariat, staffed by AKPS personnel, will facilitate the structured implementation and coordination of the Special Coordinating Committee on Electronic Waste.

Port Klang AKPS commander Datuk Nik Ezanee Mohd Faisal said the committee will conduct a comprehensive study on e-waste issues.

He stated the focus will be on matters related to entry, management, and enforcement at the national level.

Key areas for examination include the e-waste ecosystem, existing laws and procedures, and enforcement aspects.

The study will also identify relevant stakeholders and review disposal mechanisms.

“In this regard, the secretariat will formally seek feedback from relevant agencies and ministries,” Nik Ezanee said.

He added that a subsequent coordination meeting will be convened to appoint committee members.

The meeting will also coordinate and refine feedback to determine a clearer direction for e-waste management.

The goal is to enable more effective and integrity-driven enforcement.
