BINTULU: A temporary relief centre was activated at Dewan Suarah Bintulu early this morning following overnight flooding in several areas.
The Sarawak State Disaster Management Committee reported that 56 evacuees from 14 families are now sheltered at the centre.
The affected families are from Kampung Kemunting and Roselind Suang Longhouse.
The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department Operations Control Centre said a team was dispatched to Kampung Kemunting at 10.30 pm last night.
“The water levels had risen, and the fire brigade team assisted in evacuating 16 people using a Hicom lorry,” said a spokesman.
A second emergency call was received from Roselind Suang Longhouse at 12.52 am.
A 13-member team was then sent to that location to assist.
